HCPSS Schedule Change For Monday, Jan 8 2018

BREAKING: Schools will operate on a modified schedule in Howard County on Monday, Jan. 8, and some activities are canceled.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — With a wintry mix in the forecast Monday afternoon and evening, public schools in Howard County have modified their schedules. Dismissal time will occur earlier than usual, and afternoon and evening activities have been canceled, officials announced.

All schools will dismiss three hours early on Monday, Jan. 8, according to the Howard County Public School System.

Afternoon prekindergarten is canceled, school officials announced.

Both school and community-sponsored events held at schools are canceled for Monday afternoon and evening, school officials announced. That includes athletic events and games.

After-care programs sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks in Howard County public schools are canceled on Monday, Jan. 8.

Howard County is under a winter weather advisory calling for freezing rain during the afternoon and evening commute. Roads may be slippery, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued the winter weather advisory from 3 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8.

At Elkridge Landing Middle School (ELMS), a pipe burst Monday morning. Seventh-grade students were relocated to another part of the building while maintenance personnel worked in their classrooms. Heat was functioning, the school system reported. ELMS and all other Howard County public schools will dismiss three hours early on Monday, Jan. 8.
