Share A Story About A HoCo Fallen Hero On Special Website This Memorial Day Weekend

Families and friends are asked to pay tribute to fallen heroes from Howard County by sharing a story on a special website.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — In honor of fallen hometown heroes from Howard County, the office of veterans and military families asks for community members to post memories on its "fallen heroes tribute" website in time for Memorial Day.

"Howard County is grateful for all its those in service who protect our freedoms every day. It is especially important that we remember and honor our local heroes who gave their lives in order to protect those freedoms. I encourage everyone to take some time this Memorial Day to visit our 'fallen heroes tribute page' to learn more about these brave individuals," Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said.

Launched last year by the Howard County OVMF with support from the Howard County Commission for Veterans and Military Families, the "fallen heroes tribute initiative" honors county residents who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting their country. The website features photos and bios of service members who were from or at one time lived in Howard County and who lost their lives while serving in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War or the Global War on Terrorism.

"The 'fallen heroes tribute page' is something my office has wanted to create for a long time. To supplement our initial research, we are asking the community to help us identify additional fallen service members, so we can expand our tribute page to honor all who have served," noted Lisa Terry, manager of the office of veterans and military families.

Community members interested in recognizing a Howard County service member who died while in service to the United States since World War I are encouraged to complete the “Howard County fallen heroes tribute” submission form. For assistance with completing this form or for questions about the county’s fallen heroes tribute initiative, contact OVMF at veterans@howardcountymd.gov.
