How to Refuse Common Core Standardized Tests
The Howard County Republican Club invites you to join us to learn how to refuse the Common Core standardized tests!
Did you know that in March and May of this coming year, our students as young as nine years old will be sitting through 8-10 hours of online testing? And that the testing has absolutely nothing to do with their grades? The results from these test won’t even be available until next school year! The tests we are referring to are associated with Common Core.
These tests have no actual benefit to the students. They are simply a means to collect information about how one schools is doing when compared to other schools that have taken the same exam. The teachers cannot even use the data from the tests until late November or early December of the following year.
In New York, where these “more rigorous tests” have been in place for several years, there is a growing market in the field of child psychology for test taking anxiety. Here in Maryland, we do not currently have the ability to opt-out of this testing. We do, however, have a way to REFUSE the testing to be administered to our children. We can also demand that our County and State School Board of Education Members create an easier process to refuse the tests.
The Howard County Republican Club invites the public to attend our next meeting on Thursday, February 26th, 2015 at the Yingling/Ridgely VFW in Ellicott City at 7pm. We will have a guest speaker coming to teach parents how to start the process of refusing the tests for their children or grandchildren. The speaker will provide detailed information on what to write and how to combat the typical school responses. It is time that parents fight back for our children’s educational experience!
