HOWARD COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL PRESENTS TWO NEW EXHIBITS
Art Howard County 2015 and Inspired by Nature will be on display from October 30 to December 11, 2015

The Howard County Arts Council announces two new exhibits in the galleries at the Howard County Center for the Arts. Gallery I features the biennial multi-media juried exhibit Art Howard County 2015, featuring 51 works by 45 Howard County artists. Paula L. Phillips, Community Artist and Professor at Maryland Institute College of Art, served as guest juror for the exhibit, selecting work from among 297 entries submitted by 113 artists who live, work or study in Howard County, Maryland. The work from these talented local artists is wide-ranging and includes painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, collage, fiber art, and performance.
The natural world is a boundless source of inspiration for the artists showcased in Gallery II’s Inspired by Nature. Douglas Moulden’s technique of applying thick layers of acrylic paint onto warped panels brings his expressive landscape paintings close to sculpture. Elaine Katz similarly challenges the traditions of quilting with her asymmetrical and colorfully representative designs depicting flora and landscape. And George Wedberg counters their exuberant energy with his smooth, elegant carved wood sculptures that communicate peace, grace and appreciation of the natural material.
The exhibits will be on display from October 30 to December 11, 2015. A reception for both exhibits, with music and light refreshments, will be held on Friday, November 6, from 6-8PM and is open to the public. Juror Paula L. Phillips will make remarks and present the juror’s choice awards at 6:30PM.
