Howard County Public Schools Modify Afternoon Schedule

School system made decision due to inclement weather.

With snow pouring down across the county—which is under a winter weather advisory until 6 p.m. Wednesday—officials cancelled all Howard County Public School System afternoon and evening events, including those sponsored by the school system and community organizations.

High school athletic practices and events are cancelled, according to the school system.

All childcare programs in schools that are sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will remain open.

Maryland School for the Deaf in Columbia will close at 1 p.m. Liberal leave is in effect for faculty administrators and non-emergency essential support staff: administrative and clerical. As there are students in the residence halls, Dean of Students, assigned Student Life staff, dietary staff and nurses should report to work at 1 p.m. All after school activities, including ASP, are cancelled.
