HoCo Environmental Sustainability Board Seeks New Members To Serve

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Individuals interested in serving on Howard County's environmental sustainability board are encouraged to apply for a seat before the April 22 deadline.

Formed in 2007, the environmental sustainability board assists in the implementation of the county’s environmental agenda, providing both advice and review. The board is comprised of 13 members, including experts in energy, air/water quality, environmental governance, community outreach and education, transit, green building and environmental health. Members also represent at least one representative from each of the five Councilmanic districts.

“The environmental sustainability board serves a critical role in the county’s work to ensure a clean and sustainable environment and combat climate change,” Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said. “We are grateful to our residents who serve on the board today and look forward to welcoming new members in the near future.”

The county is currently looking to fill the following positions:

• Representative from Councilmanic District 3;
• Expert in energy use;
• Expert in transit or transportation;
• Representative active in environmental education; and
• Members of the general public with an interest in environmental and sustainability issues

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be a Howard County resident, qualify under one of the categories above and be able to attend the board meetings, which are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Board meetings are currently being held virtually via WebEx; however, meetings may transition back to in-person in the near future.

The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for approval and then to the County Council for confirmation.
