Maryland Ranked Among Top 10 Most Bikeable States in U.S.

This year, Maryland climbed up in the rankings for bikeability.

Is Maryland becoming more bikeable? The League of American Bicyclists thinks so.

It ranked Maryland as the seventh most bikeable state in America, up from the eleventh spot last year.

How bikeable do you think Maryland is? Tell us in the comments!

The league ranks each state based on legislation and enforcement; policies and programs; infrastructure and funding; education and encouragement; and evaluation and planning.

Here are the top 10 states for bikeability, according to the League of American Bicyclists:

  1. Washington
  2. Minnesota
  3. Wisconsin
  4. Delaware
  5. Oregon
  6. Colorado
  7. Maryland
  8. Utah
  9. California
  10. Massachusetts
Maryland's "report card" shows the league gave it 53.8 points out of 100. Some of the recommendations for improvement: pass a law allowing drivers to cross double-yellow lines so bicyclists have 3 feet of passing room; repeal the state's bike lane law because it ignores "the quality and safety of available bike lanes"; and include bicycle enforcement training in police academies, according to the report card.
