MPT's Farm & Harvest Show Highlights Howard, Harford Farms
An upcoming episode of Maryland Public Television's Farm & Harvest series will highlight operations across the state, including Howard Co.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Farms in Howard and Harford counties will be highlighted during an upcoming episode of Maryland Farm and Harvest, which appears on Maryland Public Television.
The introduction of the Feb. 17 episode, hosted by Joanne Clendining, was filmed at Maple Dell Farm in Woodbine, a registered Holstein and Ayrshire farm in western Howard County that in 2024 won the Klussendorf Association’s McKown Master Breeder Award. This honor recognizes the farm's "extraordinary devotion, character and sportsmanship." The farm was established in 1928.
The episode takes viewers to a Harford County farm to investigate tar spot. The Rose Family at Clear Meadow Farm in White Hall dealt with tar spot this past growing season, which is a disease limiting corn growth. Senior Agent Andrew Kness and University of Maryland Extension researchers are working to prevent its spread and identify treatment strategies. Tar spot appeared in Maryland in 2022 after being found in the United States in 2015.
