No. 1 Flooring Brand Comes to Area: Floor Coverings International is a Whole New Home Improvement Experience
Steven Artman's Unique Mobile Flooring Showroom® Brings 3,000+ Samples for Homeowners to Choose From

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. - Steven Artman is beginning an important new chapter in his family’s lives as the owner of Floor Coverings International, serving homeowners throughout Ellicott City.
Artman, 35, officially opened his new business July 13, bringing a convenient, consumer-friendly approach to selecting and installing new flooring. Rather than asking customers to spend hours visiting traditional flooring stores, Floor Coverings International brings a Mobile Flooring Showroom® directly to the customer’s home.
Homeowners can compare flooring samples in the rooms where they will be installed, allowing them to see how different colors, textures and materials look alongside their furniture, lighting, and décor. Artman guides customers through the process, from product selection and measurements to installation and final inspection.

“Flooring is a major investment, and homeowners deserve to feel informed and comfortable throughout the process,” Artman said. “My goal is not to push a sale. It is to listen, understand what the customer needs and help them find the best solution for their home, lifestyle, and budget.”
Artman brings extensive experience in operations, project management, sales, and customer service to the new business. He spent nine years managing operations in the office furniture industry, where he coordinated complex projects, solved problems, led teams, and worked to ensure customers received a high-quality experience.

He also has experience in in-home, retail and business-to-business sales.
“After spending years helping other businesses grow, I wanted to apply that same energy and commitment to something of my own,” Artman said. “I wanted to build a company around taking care of people, doing things the right way and developing long-term relationships.”
After overcoming an unsettled childhood, leaving high school at 15 and rebuilding his education and career from the ground up, Artman is confident that life and his former job experiences have given him the tools to succeed along with FCI’s terrific training, products, culture, and business model.
Artman’s path to business ownership reflects a lifetime of perseverance. He lost his father to cancer when he was 9. During his father’s illness and the years that followed, his family moved through five cities in four states over a five-year period.
Artman borrowed books from the library, earned his GED, and achieved high SAT scores before continuing his education in college.
“I refused to let my circumstances define the rest of my life,” Artman said. “This business is an opportunity to serve my community, build something meaningful and create a legacy for my wife and our three children.”
His experiences have also inspired him to help other families. Artman serves as a branch leader for a nonprofit organization that supports children who have lost a parent and participates in additional community volunteer efforts.
Artman is especially enthusiastic about advances that have made today’s flooring more durable and family friendly. New products are increasingly resistant to stains, scratches, dents, moisture, and everyday wear while still offering the appearance of natural hardwood, stone, and other premium materials.
“Flooring has become an incredibly technology-driven industry,” Artman said. “There are beautiful products designed to stand up to children, pets, spills, and busy households. My job is to help homeowners understand those options and choose what will work best in their homes. The biggest lesson I’ve learned throughout my career is that when my focus is simply to help people and find the best solution for them, not to “sell” them, everyone wins. Customers feel taken care of, trust is built, and the business naturally follows. That mindset is what I will bring into this new career.”
Floor Coverings International of Ellicott City offers carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl, laminate, tile, and other flooring solutions, along with professional installation.
