• Former Lacrosse Player ID'd As Driver Killed In Elkridge Car Crash (patch.com) — Residents in Ellicott City are learning more about the Sept. 18 single-vehicle crash on Ilchester Road that left an 18-year-old driver dead at the scene. Howard County Police say the Nissan Juke left the roadway between Jeans Way and Bonnie Branch Road, and the victim, a recent Howard High School graduate and former varsity lacrosse player from Elkridge, has now been publicly identified.
   

• Howard County Seeks Entries for Student Coloring Book Contest (howardcountymd.gov) — Howard County is inviting third- through fifth-graders, including those in Ellicott City, to submit black-and-white drawings for its annual "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" coloring book contest by January 15, 2027. Thirteen winning designs will appear in a county coloring book, with awards presented during the 20th annual GreenFest at Howard Community College in Columbia.
   

• Southern Maryland Target Store's to Participate in Pokémon's 30th Anniversary Celebration (smnewsnet.com) — Ellicott City's Target is among dozens of Maryland stores hosting a Pokémon 30th anniversary celebration this Sunday, September 27, from noon to 4 p.m. Local fans can enjoy card-drawing activities, photo spots, giveaways while supplies last, and plenty of Pokémon merchandise, with some locations also offering a Nintendo Switch 2 game demo.
