Two Arrested In Route 40 Robbery Attempt In Ellicott City: Police

Police said that a daytime robbery attempt ended with a fight on Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Two 14-year-old boys were charged in connection with an attempted robbery on US 40 this week, according to police. One was from Ellicott City, and the other was from Columbia, officials said.

Both have been charged with attempted robbery and assault, Howard County police reported.

The charges stem from an incident in the 9300 block of Baltimore National Pike that happened earlier in the week.

Police said a teenage boy was approached by two suspects on Baltimore National Pike/US 40 who demanded his wallet and cell phone at 3:32 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20.

The victim got into a physical fight with the would-be robbers, one of whom possessed what officials later determined was a BB gun, authorities reported.

After the altercation, police said the suspects took off, and nothing was stolen.

The 14-year-old boys had both been charged as of Friday, March 22, authorities reported.
