Flood Warning Extended In Howard County
Heavy rain may lead to flooding in HoCo through Thursday evening, weather officials warn.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The National Weather Service extended a flood warning for Howard County, including Columbia and Ellicott City. The warning was originally issued until 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday; it has been extended until 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Flooding was occurring in waterways across the region, based on gauge readings at 11:30 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The Patapsco River has flooded between Catonsville and Pumphrey. The Gunpowder Falls was also still experiencing "significant flooding," the weather service warned, despite water levels receding.

The flood warning means that flooding is occurring or is imminent. Drivers who come across roads covered in water should turn around; don't drown.
Until 2 a.m. Thursday, a flash flood watch was in effect calling for showers and thunderstorms through Wednesday evening that could produce torrential rains, particularly along the Interstate 95 corridor.

Because the ground is already saturated, officials say heavy rain could lead to flash flooding.
Roads and poorly drained areas can quickly become inundated during a flash flood. Streams and creeks could leave their banks, flooding nearby properties. Residents should monitor the forecast and be prepared to take action if a flash flood warning is issued, according to the National Weather Service.
Law enforcement reported many roads were blocked by high water as of 10:17 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Water rescues were ongoing in Carroll County.
