Su Casa Expanding On Main Street

A Main Street business is expanding, during a time when other businesses are considering leaving.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — An Ellicott City business is expanding. Su Casa announced Thursday that it plans to grow to 10,000 square feet.

“Su Casa is deeply committed to the town’s success, which is why we’re not only reopening — we’re investing," Nick Johnson, owner of Su Casa, said in a statement.

"We want to make our store a resource for the community, giving people even more of a reason to come back to town," Johnson said.

The home decor business will add a design studio, where community events and workshops can be held.

Su Casa, which has three other locations — Fells Point; Bethany Beach, Delawre; and Ocean View, Delaware — says the addition will make its Main Street store bigger than the Baltimore and current Ellicott City store combined.

Currently, the Main Street store is about 4,000 square feet, The Baltimore Sun reports.

Su Casa says the new space will allow 50 vignettes to be on display versus the 20 home design vignettes it has now.

“We envision a space where people can go to feel inspired," Johnson said.

The expansion, which also entails additional jobs being created in the area, is especially meaningful given that Su Casa recently reopened on Main Street in July after the May 27 flood.

“I’m thankful that Su Casa and Nick have again committed to being part of the amazing Historic Ellicott City business community," Howard County Councilman Jon Weinstein, who represents Ellicott City, said in a statement. He and County Executive Allan Kittleman announced last week a proposal that calls for tearing down 10 buildings on part of lower Main Street to reduce future flood damage.

“Su Casa adds much to the character of the town and is a huge draw for people around the region," Weinstein said. "We’re lucky to have Su Casa on Main Street.”

According to Su Casa, the expansion is slated to be complete sometime in the fall.

Su Casa is at 8307 Main Street in Ellicott City.
