'Suspicious' Package on US 40 Deemed Harmless: Howard County Police

Police said Route 40 in Ellicott City has reopened after investigation of package.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Authorities temporarily closed part of US 40 in Ellicott City Saturday morning to investigate a potentially suspicious package.

By 7:20 a.m., officials said they had determined nothing dangerous was found, and the road was reopening.

Previously, at 5:15 a.m., the Howard County Police Department reported that eastbound Route 40 was closed at Rogers Avenue for the investigation. Out of an abundance of caution, police said after 6 a.m. that eastbound lanes of Route 40 remained closed due to the possibly suspicious package.
