Two New Exhibits Coming to the Howard County Arts Council in September

On September 2, 2016, the Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) opens two new exhibits: The Value of Three and Ceramics: Trisha Kyner & Christina McCleary

The Value of Three features work by members of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. In recognition of the number three’s symbolic associations throughout history as well as its practical design applications, artists were asked to somehow reference the numeral into their works.

Ceramics: Trisha Kyner & Christina McCleary presents figural ceramic works by Trisha Kyner paired with figural and installation ceramic works by Christina McCleary. Kyner’s work explores concepts of identity and transformation, while McCleary is interested in reflecting upon concepts of womanhood, femininity, and personal history.

The Value of Three and Ceramics: Trisha Kyner & Christina McCleary will be on display from September 2 through October 14, 2016.

A reception for both exhibits will be held on Friday, September 16 from 6–8 p.m., in conjunction with the Arts Council’s Annual Meeting and Grant Awards Ceremony. Resident artist studios will also be open to guests during the reception.

Also on display now through September 30 is Paint It! Ellicott City 2016, featuring work created during HCAC’s annual plein air paint-out in Historic Ellicott City. This exhibit’s run has been extended as part of a fundraiser in support of the artists impacted by the July 30 flood that devastated Ellicott City’s historic district. HCAC’s commission from the sale of Paint It! artwork will be donated to Re-create: Ellicott City Artist Relief Fund.
