Driver Critical After Route 100 Crash Into Pond: Officials

A man was rescued from an SUV in a pond off Route 100 Monday afternoon, Howard County police said.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — An SUV driver is in critical condition after he and his vehicle ended up in a pond off Route 100 in Ellicott City Monday afternoon. The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. near Executive Park Drive.

Police said that the Ford Edge had been traveling east on Route 100 in erratic fashion when it hit a guardrail, flipped and came to rest in a pond.

A water rescue team from the fire department responded and had removed the driver from the SUV before 2 p.m., officials said. He was the only one inside the vehicle.

First responders took the driver to Howard County General Hospital, where officials said he was listed in critical condition. He did not have identification on him, and authorities said they were working to determine who he was.

Drivers were advised to avoid Route 100 east at Executive Park Drive after the crash, where one lane was closed for the response.
