1 Killed In House Fire In Essex: Report

One person was reportedly killed in a house fire in Essex Sunday that sent a firefighter and pet to the hospital and displaced a family.

ESSEX, MD — A woman reportedly died in a house fire in Essex on Sunday, July 14. A family was also displaced by the blaze and a firefighter was injured, officials said.

Firefighters were called to the 1000 block of Foxridge Lane at 12:31 p.m. for reports of smoke in the house and said they found heavy smoke coming from the residence.

Lillian Webb, 74, was found deceased at the scene, according to WJZ, which reported originally officials had said there was a rescue, but that was later determined to have been inaccurate.

The fire started on the stove, WJZ reported, and it was deemed accidental.

According to the Baltimore County Fire Department, the neighbors in the adjacent home were displaced, and a cat at that home was taken by ambulance to a local animal hospital for smoke inhalation.

One firefighter was taken for what appeared to be heat-related, non-life-threatening injuries, officials reported.

By 12:52 p.m., authorities said the fire was under control.
