The Star-Spangled Banner Flag House Seeks Nominations for Elite Mary Pickersgill Award Modeled After Namesake

The Star-Spangled Banner Flag House today announced it is now accepting nominations for The Mary Pickersgill Award for women’s leadership in business.

The Mary Pickersgill Award is named for Baltimore flag maker Mary Pickersgill, the woman who createdthe Star-Spangled Banner, the flag that flew over Fort McHenry after the battle of Baltimore and inspiredour national anthem.

"The Flag House is extremely excited about this award," says Annelise Montone, Executive Director ofthe Star-Spangled Banner Flag House. "We want to make a specific point to honor a woman who is aleader and a credit to her community much like Mary Pickersgill was in 1812. We want someone who isnot just an innovator in her chosen field but also has the power to inspire others.”

“Mary Pickersgill was certainly a leading woman,” added David Gildea, Flag House & Star SpangledBanner Museum’s President of the Board. “I've always been a champion for women in business and that'swhy I am proud our organization is launching an award that recognizes leading women, especially inBaltimore, a place where Mary accomplished so much.”

The nomination period closes February 15th at 4:00 p.m. The nomination form can be found on the FlagHouse website at www.flaghouse.org.
The award will be given at Flag House’s annual Flag Day Celebration on June 14th, 2013.
