βWe were approached by the museum members a few weeks back about setting up a display and I thought it was a great idea,β Essex Library branch manager Bob Maranto said. βThe Middle River area has such a great aviation history and this was a way to let others know about it.β
Along with the display, other recent activities involving the museum include the opening of a new exhibit, the story of Martin companyΒ workers in World War II.Β
Then, from May 21 to 23, the Commemorative Air Force will be bringing in its WWII planes to Martin State Airport. This includes its B-29 "Fifi," a B-24 and a P-51 Mustang. Paid tours, and even the opportunity to fly in one of the planes, will be available.Β
Martin State Airport also will house the from June 16 toΒ 17 as part of the Star-Spangled Sailabration, the stateβs bicentennial celebration of the War of 1812.
βThese are exciting times for us,β museum executive director Bob Byrnes said. βThere are amazing opportunities for people to learn about the museum and the communityβs aviation heritage.β
