Hit And Run Injures 3-Year-Old, Middle River Man Charged: Police

Police said a Middle River man has been charged in the hit-and-run crash that put a 3-year-old girl in the hospital.

MIDDLE RIVER, MD — Police said a Middle River man has been charged in a hit-and-run crash that injured a 3-year-old girl on Sunday evening. When found, officials said he was less than a mile from the crash site.

Michael William Houston Burns, 46, of the unit block of Walkway Court in Middle River, now faces charges related to the hit-and-run crash and driving on a suspended license, police said.

At 6:10 p.m. on Sunday, officials allege he hit a 3-year-old girl who ran into traffic in the unit block of Right Wing Drive. The girl was taken to an area hospital with a broken leg and was expected to survive, authorities reported.

Officials released a photo online Sunday night of the suspect vehicle, a white four-door Hyundai Elantra, and people to call 911 if they had information.

Police thanked a woman identified as "Ms. Stephanie" who noticed the vehicle at approximately 9 p.m. in the 200 block of Glider Drive, about 0.5 mile from the crash site, and alerted officials since she had seen it on the Baltimore County Facebook page.

Burns was arrested and is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bail pending a bail review hearing, officials reported. He lives less than 2 miles from the location of the collision.
