• Woman dead in Essex shooting, marking fourth homicide in two weeks (somdnews.com) — A woman was fatally shot early Sunday on Woodrow Avenue in Essex, marking the fourth homicide in the community in less than three weeks. Baltimore County police are investigating and urging anyone with information to call detectives as they also pursue charges in three earlier Essex killings. 
• Baltimore-area Colombians pray, mobilize aid after deadly earthquake (catholicreview.org) — Essex residents recently joined Baltimore's Colombian Catholic community to collect three metric tons of food, clothing, and hygiene supplies for earthquake survivors in Colombia. Local parishioners and clergy with family in the hardest-hit coffee-growing regions describe the devastation and ask neighbors here to keep donating and praying as damage assessments and recovery continue overseas.
