📰 News we're reading
• Oct. 5 Police Blotter: Robberies, burglaries, and armed assaults reported in eastern Baltimore County (newsbreak.com) — Recent police blotter updates show several serious crimes in and around Essex, including an attempted robbery on Mace Avenue and a residential burglary on Silver Lane. Officers have made arrests in some nearby Middle River and Rosedale cases, but several suspects remain at large. Residents are urged to stay alert and contact Baltimore County police with any information about these unsolved incidents.
• New Maryland squatter law takes effect, days after owner pays thousands (foxbaltimore.com) — An Essex homeowner on Armor Court finally got a long-problematic occupant out by paying thousands in a "cash for keys" deal, just days before Maryland's new counterfeit-lease law took effect on October 1. The law makes creating or using fake leases to defraud a felony, aiming to deter repeat squatters statewide. Local residents worried by similar Essex disputes may see stronger tools for police and prosecutors going forward.
