Local historians highlight how sites like Carroll Creek, Rose Hill Manor, Catoctin Furnace, and the Maryland School for the Deaf campus connect 18th-century events to the city you walk through today, including a new “Cultivating Independence” exhibit at Heritage Frederick.

Black Bear Captured on Camera in Montgomery County Thursday Night (mocoshow.com) — Black bears are most common in western Maryland, including Frederick County, but younger males are increasingly wandering into central areas like Montgomery County in search of food. State wildlife officials urge residents to secure trash, bird feeders, pet food, and grills so roaming bears don’t get used to human food and start frequenting neighborhoods.

Four Brooklyn Arms Combine on 1-hit Shutout as Cyclones Top Keys, 2-0 (milb.com) — Frederick Keys fans saw their team held to just one hit in a 2-0 road loss to the Brooklyn Cyclones, as four Cyclones pitchers dominated from the mound. Starter Channing Austin led the way and Ronald Hernandez’s sixth-inning homer provided the winning margin. The series wraps up Sunday with Frederick’s Kiefer Lord slated to start.
