Teen Charged After Bringing Weapon To Magruder High School: Police

DERWOOD, MD — A 15-year-old student is facing charges after bringing a weapon to Colonel Zadok Magruder High School on Thursday, police said.

Montgomery County Police said in a post that the teenager was charged with assault and possession of a dangerous weapon on school property.

The announcement came shortly after the department said the school was placed on hold after two students were found possessing weapons. Both incidents were separate, according to police.

Authorities initially said one student was found with a knife, as another had a BB gun in their possession.

The police department did not state how officials became aware of either case.

Magruder High School is one of several MCPS schools previously selected for the VOLT-AI pilot program, which was announced in February as a means to help strengthen school safety.

VOLT-AI, according to the school district, works in step with MCPS' security cameras and flags "certain situations that may need attention." A trained school staffer reviews all incidents highlighted by the system.

The development comes as Montgomery County Public Schools is nearing the end of just the second week of the 2026-2027 school year.
