Gaithersburg Sisters Win $50K Lottery Prize

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Two Gaithersburg sisters who play Powerball and Mega Millions nearly every drawing have finally struck gold.

The lucky pair won the $50,000 third-tier Powerball prize at Main Street Beer and Wine in Gaithersburg. They are the only Marylanders to win the prize in the Feb. 2 drawing, according to state lottery officials.

"When I looked at my ticket and saw that I'd won, I was in shock," one of the sisters, a federal employee, told the Maryland Lottery.

The winners, whom lottery officials identified as two women in their early 50s, only told a close friend and a family member about their luck.

When officials asked what they'd do with their newfound fortune, the sisters said that they wanted to pay off their bills.
