Knife-Wielding Man Threatens Wendy's Customers: Police

A man faces multiple charges after he allegedly entered a Gaithersburg Wendy's and threatened customers with a knife, police said.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A 61-year-old man faces multiple charges after he allegedly walked into a Gaithersburg Wendy's restaurant and threatened customers with a knife, according to police.

Adonias Gomez of Gaithersburg was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and endangering the public safety while being intoxicated, said Montgomery County police.

At about 4:52 p.m. on Monday, police responded to 18350 Contour Rd for a report of a person wielding a knife. Witnesses told officers that Gomez entered the restaurant, brandished a knife, and then threatened and chased after an unidentified patron.

Police said they found Gomez outside by the drive-thru area, holding a large, bloody knife. It is unclear whose blood was on the weapon.

The officers tased Gomez after he refused to comply with their orders, according to authorities. Gomez was then taken to the Central Processing Unit, where he was charged by Montgomery County police. Gomez is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Police are asking for the unidentified patron, and anyone else who was involved in the incident, to contact 6th District officers at 240-773-5770.
