A man is dead after getting hit by a tractor-trailer on I-270 in Gaithersburg Friday morning. Police say he may have been changing a tire.
GAITHERSBURG, MD — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 270 in Gaithersburg Friday morning, authorities said.
Maryland State Police say the incident happened around 5:30 a.m., near the Shady Grove Road exit.
A preliminary investigation suggests that a 2018 Freightliner Flatbed truck was traveling on the main lanes of northbound I-270 when it hit the man, who was on the right shoulder, Maryland State Police spokeswoman Elena Russo told Patch.

Russo said police are having trouble identifying the pedestrian because he didn't have any form of ID on him and wasn't the registered owner of the vehicle.
The incident shut down a portion of the highway.
