Maryland MEP holds 'Cheers to Gears' event at Patton Electronics in Gaithersburg

Montgomery County-based manufacturer held networking event as part of MD MEP's Make it in Maryland Program

The Maryland Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MD MEP), a non-profit committed to growing and strengthening Maryland manufacturing, held its Make it in Maryland program’s latest ‘Cheers to Gears’ event on Thursday, April 28, at Patton Electronics in Gaithersburg, Md.

Incorporated in 1984 Patton has built everything from micro-sized widgets that connect "this-with-that," to carrier-grade Telecom gear that connects subscribers to service providers. Patton's specialty is interconnecting legacy TDM and serial systems with new-generation IP-based voice, data, and multimedia technologies. Headquartered in Gaithersburg, Patton equipment — including VoIP, Ethernet extension, and high availability router technologies — is up-and-running in carrier, enterprise and industrial networks worldwide

The Make it in Maryland program is Maryland’s first and only program dedicated to manufacturers within the state to showcase companies, demonstrate the value of manufacturing within Maryland and highlight manufacturing successes.

The ‘Cheers to Gears’ event on Thursday included a networking reception and a special presentation from Patton Electronics. Following the presentation, guests were given the opportunity to tour of Patton’s headquarters. A slew of new companies were in attendance, including Meso Scale Diagnostics LLC, Allied Component Works LLC, Automated Precision Inc., Washington Laboratories, North American Millwright and Quality Biologics. Also attending the event were the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development.

“Thursday’s ‘Cheers to Gears’ event at Patton Electronics was a great success, with many new members of our various programs in attendance,” said Mike Kelleher, Chief Operating Officer of MD MEP. “As we continue our efforts to grow manufacturing in Maryland, these events provide a unique opportunity for Maryland manufacturers to get together, network and see how companies like Patton Electronics are thriving.”

The Make it in Maryland Program’s ‘Cheers to Gears’ events are hosted monthly by different Make it in Maryland Program members, with an ultimate goal to provide invested companies with an opportunity to experience new facilities, network with and learn more about their Make It In Maryland counterparts.

Designed for members and local manufacturers interested in learning more about MD MEP’s Make it in Maryland Program, ‘Cheers to Gears’ events are one of many ways MD MEP is continuing to work in 2016 to show support and appreciation for companies that invest in Maryland.
