GAITHERSBURG, MD — A Silver Spring man accused of fatally shooting a Shell gas station clerk last week is now facing additional charges in the death of a pregnant woman found inside his apartment.

Montgomery County police said 31-year-old Torrey Moore of Silver Spring was arrested and charged last week in connection with a Dec. 8 shooting at a Dash In convenience store located in the 11100 block of New Hampshire Avenue.

Ayalew Wondimu, 61, of Silver Spring, was killed in the shooting, police said.

After tracking Moore to the Enclave Apartments across the street from the gas station, Montgomery County Police said detectives found a woman's body "in an advanced stage of decomposition" inside the apartment.

Police said Moore told officers he had been in a relationship with the woman and that she was eight months pregnant when she died.

The woman's body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to confirm her cause of death. Authorities have not released her name; however, NBC Washington identified her as a 28-year-old woman.

Moore is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of the woman and unborn child.

Moore was previously charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm while committing a felony in connection with the fatal gas station shooting, police said.

According to authorities, Moore entered the convenience store and approached the counter to make a purchase. For unknown reasons, a verbal altercation broke out between Moore and Wondimu. This altercation quickly turned physical, at which point Moore pulled a gun from his vest and shot Wondimu multiple times, police said.

Wondimu was pronounced dead at the scene.
