Passenger Who Was Ejected From Car In Derwood Crash Has Died
A Gaithersburg man who was ejected from a car during a hit-and-run crash in Derwood has died.

GAITHERSBURG, MD โ A Gaithersburg man who was critically injured in a Nov. 18 hit-and-run crash has died. Officials said 23-year-old Oscar Eduardo Rivas-Macal died at a hospital Friday after being ejected from a car in Derwood. A search is under way for the second motorist.
Police said the crash happened at Muncaster Road in the area of Beechdale Court around 10:09 p.m. on Nov. 18. An initial investigation revealed that a 2006 Chevy Cobalt, driven by 24-year-old Mario Antonio Jandres-Rivera, was traveling south on Muncaster Road before hitting an embankment and rolling over.
Rivas-Macal, the passenger, was thrown from the car during the collision. Both driver and passenger were taken to a hospital. Jandres-Rivera, the driver, was the sole survivor of the crash and is in stable condition, according to police.

Investigators believe a dark-colored Ford Mustang was involved in the fatal collision, and they are searching for the driver. It is unclear what role the vehicle played Sunday night.
The crash is still under investigation. Police ask anyone with information to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
