Pedestrian Hit By Pickup Truck In Gaithersburg Has Died: Police

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A pedestrian who was struck by a pickup truck in Gaithersburg on Wednesday, Sept. 11 has died, according to authorities.

Eleanor Cohen, 78, of Gaithersburg, was killed after she was hit by a 2017 GMC Sierra Denali near LA Fitness on Copley Place. She was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Montgomery County police.

Investsigators have identified the driver of the 2017 GMC Sierra Denali as 40-year-old Ricardo S. Diogo, of Rockville. Police said Diogo was trying to turn left onto Copley Place after exiting the Harris Teeter grocery store parking lot. At the time of the crash, Cohen had exited LA Fitness and was trying to cross the Copley Place.
