Police ID Man Found Dead in Retention Pond Near Lakeforest Mall
The body of a Germantown man reported missing May 16 was found Tuesday in a Gaithersburg retention pond.
The man whose body was found in a stormwater runoff pond near Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg has been identified as Maurice Darnell Munford Jr., 22, of Germantown.
Munford, of the 13800 block of Bailiwick Terrace in Germantown, had been reported missing to police by family members on May 16, according to Montgomery County Police.
Authorities have not said how Munford died. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continues to investigate the cause and manner of Munford’s death, police said Wednesday.

A call about a possible drowning near Montgomery Village Avenue and Russell Avenue came in around 9:51 a.m. Tuesday, Montgomery County police told WNEW.
Gaithersburg Police assisted police and fire units from Montgomery County at the pond. A fire station is located close to the site where the victim’s body was discovered, Patch earlier reported.
