GAITHERSBURG, MD — Police have released surveillance photos of a man they say robbed a SunTrust Bank inside a Gaithersburg Safeway on Saturday, Jan. 12.

On Saturday, units were called to the bank at 12251 Darnestown Rd. for a report of a bank robbery that had just taken place. Montgomery County Police said the robber, an unidentified male suspect, entered the bank wearing dark pants and an oversized hooded green sweatshirt. He was also described wearing a possibly fake, long black beard with a white mask and dark sunglasses.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect approached a bank teller and presented a note demanding money. The bank teller complied and the suspect fled with the stolen cash.

Police said the robber was last seen fleeing on foot in the direction of Nursery Lane and Orchard Grove Road. Anyone in the area — specifically on McDonald Chapel Drive, Nursery Lane, or Orchard Grove Road — is asked to notify detectives if they saw, or if they know video footage exists, of suspicious individuals or vehicles between 10:30 a.m. and noon on Saturday.

Police are also urge anyone with information regarding the suspect or robbery to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100. Those who wish to remain anonymous can reach the county's Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). A cash reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest or indictment.
