Sears Closing At Lakeforest Mall: Report

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Sears, the one-time retail titan, intends to close more stores across the country — including one in Gaithersburg.

According to USA TODAY, the national retailer announced it will shutter its Lakeforest Mall location at the end of the year. It's the latest retail casualty for the shopping center, which has been struggling to keep its anchor tenants.

Within the past few months, major retailers, such as JCPenny and Lord & Taylor, announced they were closing up shop. Those moves will reportedly affect more than 100 employees.

It is unclear how many Sears employees will be affected by this closure. The store in Gaithersburg is one of nearly 100 locations to close this December, USA TODAY reports.
