St. Martin's Day of Giving Back for Catholic Education

Catholic Schools Week Celebrates Education, Faith, and Service

During Catholic Schools Week (January 28-February 3), St. Martinโ€™s School community in Gaithersburg, looks forward to a whirlwind of activities. Since 1974, this nation-wide annual week of events is a celebration of education, faith, and service, which are traditional trademarks of Catholic schools.

This year they are participating in the National Catholic Education Associationโ€™s, Many Gifts, One Nation: A Day of Giving on Tuesday, January 30. This inaugural event is a 24-hour social media campaign, encouraging those who have benefitted from Catholic education, to donate to a local Catholic school. For over ninety years, St. Martinโ€™s has offered academic excellence rooted in Catholic tradition. Through participation challenges, matching gifts, and the involvement of their generous school community, they hope to raise money that will benefit the schoolโ€™s greatest needs. Through social media, St. Martinโ€™s will be inviting alumni, parents, students, faculty, parishioners, and all those who have been impacted by Catholic school education in ways big and small, to donate to St. Martinโ€™s. St. Martinโ€™s is on three social media platforms, Facebook @smsmd.org, Twitter @SMSCrusader, and Instagram @smscrusader. The NCEA is providing St. Martinโ€™s with a safe and secure online payment portal for the 24-hour event. Cash and check donations may be mailed or dropped off to the school office.

Each day, during Catholic Schools Week, they will honor different contributors to the school community. The week will include a school-wide STEM assembly, an Open House, a service project, and other activities for students, families, faculty, and parishioners. Through these events, they focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to the church and the community. The facultyโ€™s Catholic Schools Week Committee plans a wide array of activities, but parents, students, and parishioners contribute greatly to the weekโ€™s success.
