GAITHERSBURG, MD — The Stanley Cup took a trip to Gaithersburg High School Wednesday, where members of the B.R.O.T.H.E.R.S. mentoring program got up close and personal with NHL's coveted trophy.
David Blair, a part owner of the Washington Capitals, said his decision to bring the Stanley Cup to Gaithersburg stems from his connection with the program, Montgomery County Media reported. While running for Montgomery County Executive, Blair told the outlet that he was impressed by B.R.O.T.H.E.R.S.
B.R.O.T.H.E.R.S. is a student-run mentoring program focused on young males in Montgomery County, according to Morris Hudson, the founder and executive director of the program.

"One of the benefits of being a part owner is we also got to see what the other owners have done. The Cup's been to Walter Reed, it's been to Children's Hospital. So, it's had the opportunity to be in many fabulous places," Blair told the outlet. "I felt, to me, my deepest connection was here."
Blair went on to say he grew up close to Gaithersburg, down in Darnestown.

On Wednesday, the Gaithersburg students were able to take pictures with the Stanley Cup and wear David Blair's championship ring, according to Montgomery County Media.
"This is a tremendous honor, especially for our brothers," Luis Barrera, the program's president, told the outlet. "We put so much work and so much effort, and it just feels amazing to be congratulated with such a tremendous honor like the Stanley Cup — something that isn't seen everywhere. It's just amazing."
"For these young men, it's not the Stanley Cup as much as it is the gesture of having Mr. Blair bring the cup to them. He could've taken that cup anywhere in the country. But he chose to share it with the group of young men who knew really needed that kind of shot in the arm."
