Suspect Charged With Shooting Gaithersburg Woman in Leg

Police say a Gaithersburg man shot a woman in the leg Jan. 2; a man was charged in the assault and burglary on Thursday.

GAITHERSBURG, MD โ€” Authorities have charged a Gaithersburg man with burglary, assault and firearms charges for allegedly shooting a woman in the leg recently, but officials haven't shed light on what led up to the assault or what led police to their suspect.

Gaithersburg Police on Thursday charged Chris Hector Hernandez-Vallecillo, 21, from Gaithersburg, for a Jan. 2 shooting in the 100 block of Lamont Lane. The shooting was reported at 3:30 p.m. that day and officers found a woman who had suffered a gunshot wound to her leg. The victimโ€™s injuries were not life threatening; she was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect was described as an Hispanic male who had been last seen wearing a dark colored jacket.

On Jan. 10, Hernandez-Vallecillo was developed as a suspect, police say, and on Thursday he was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, third-degree burglary, and possession and use of a handgun in the commission of a violent felony. He is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center without bond.

Hernandez-Vallecillo has also been charged with robbery and theft-related charges in other unrelated cases.
