Teen Charged After 3-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots Herself With Gun

Montgomery County police were called to a Montgomery Village apartment Tuesday where they discovered the injured toddler, authorities said.

MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, MD — A 3-year-old girl is recovering after accidentally shooting herself inside a Montgomery County apartment on Tuesday. A teenager has also been charged following the incident, police said.

Police were called to an apartment in the 18600 block of Walkers Choice Road in Montgomery Village shortly after 12 p.m. where they discovered the toddler. The girl was taken to the hospital where she underwent surgery, police said.

After receiving a warrant to search the home, investigators found a .40 caliber privately- manufactured gun inside the home, officials said.

A 15-year-old who does not live at the apartment has been charged with possessing ammunition by a prohibited person, police said. He has since been released to his parents.

The shooting remains under investigation.
