$50K MD Lottery Ticket Sold At MoCo Gas Station
A $50,000 winning ticket from the Maryland Lottery was claimed at a Germantown gas station by a Boyds resident shopping on a whim.
GERMANTOWN, MD — When Zachary Drennan, of Boyds, recently walked into a gas station in Germantown, he had no idea that within just a few moments he'd be $50,000 richer.
That was the case on Jan. 30, when Drennan ventured into the Exxon gas station at 19815 Germantown Road with his friend to buy lottery tickets, according to a Thursday release from Maryland Lottery.
Drennan had fully intended to throw his luck on a game he'd played before but changed course after his friend suggested he try out something different. In this case, it was the lottery company's 50X the Cash game, which launched Jan. 9.

“He told me new games had been lucky for him in the past, so I gave it a try,” Drennan said in a release.
And just like that, the rest is history after Drennan's scratch-off revealed the hidden prize.

"All I could think of was getting the ticket home and figuring out how to cash it," Drennan recalled of that day. "I was shouting, hurrying my friend. I know I freaked him out."
Drennan's new fortune is already earmarked. He says the money will go toward a new home
Maryland Lottery said a total of eight winning tickets for $100,000 and nine for $50,000 remain in circulation across the state for the 50X the Cash game.
