Barnesville 8th Grade Artwork on Display at BlackRock

BlackRock celebrates Youth Art Month features art by 8th grade students from Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences

The Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences Eighth Grade Annual Art Exhibit preview took place March 14 at BlackRock Center for the Arts.

BlackRock celebrates Youth Art Month by presenting a series of exhibits featuring art by students from area schools. Works by Barnesville’s eighth grade students are on display in the Terrace Gallery March 15 through April 1st.

Students have been building their portfolios throughout the year, including works that range from sculpture, to painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography. A jury helped select at least three works by each student for the exhibition. Students wrote brief artist statements about their favorite artwork and helped on the installation at the gallery.

Youth Art Month is an annual celebration emphasizing the value of art education, encouraging support for quality school art programs, and recognizing the valuable skills developed through the visual arts curriculum that are not possible in other subjects. Sponsored by the National Art Education Association, the theme for Youth Art Month this year is “Building Community Through Art.”

Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences is an independent private school in Montgomery County, Maryland offering innovative preschool through 8th grade programs. Cross-curricular teaching encourages students to explore how subjects relate to one another, helping them to make connections that spark inquiry and deepen understanding. Barnesville's visual arts program is an integral part of the School’s academic curriculum. Our art teacher works closely with other teachers to integrate art into social studies, science, and even math curriculums.
