Clarksburg Graduate Killed In I-70 Crash: Maryland State Troopers
Tyler Michael Gergler, a recent Clarksburg High School graduate, was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Ellicott City Friday afternoon.

GERMANTOWN, MD — A recent Clarksburg High School graduate was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Ellicott City, according to Maryland State Police.
The incident happened on I-70 East at about 4:30 p.m. Troopers from the Waterloo Barrack determined that a black Toyota Camry had veered off the roadway and struck a guardrail.
Authorities have identified the driver killed in the single-vehicle crash as 18-year-old Tyler Michael Gergler, of Ijamsville. The teen was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel.

Police believe he was on his way to New Jersey to visit family.
Clarksburg High School Principal Edward Owusu took to social media to tell the community that Gergler had passed away.

"Tyler was a wonderful young man and excelled academically. He was an athlete on the track and field team as well as the football team," Owusu wrote.
Gergler — who graduated from Clarksburg High School in 2019 — had plans to serve his country, according to Owusu.
"He aspired to be a Marine and serve others. More importantly the core values to be good and do good lived vibrantly in his daily life. He will be greatly missed."
Investigators are still trying to piece together the events that led up to the fatal Ellicott City crash.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Waterloo Barrack at 410-799-2101.
