Convicted Crack Dealer Got Supply in Germantown

A West Virginia drug dealer convicted Friday told police that he drove to Germantown for his crack supply.

Lawrence Robert Hicks, 42, of Martinsburg, W.Va., was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for two counts of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, according to the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Office.  

Friday’s sentence stems from an Oct. 22 incident, when Montgomery County Police and Drug Enforcement Agency officers spotted Hicks in Germantown and followed him to Clarksburg. Police pulled him over and found 10 grams of crack, according to U.S. District Court records Patch accessed online.

But it was while Hicks was in police custody for a Sept. 20 traffic stop — one in which Maryland State Police had also discovered 10 grams of crack — that Hicks reportedly told investigators that he traveled to Germantown twice a week to buy the drugs he sold in Martinsburg, according to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court.

He was released without being charged, the court records state.

Hicks reportedly told police that he started selling drugs in April 2011 because he lost his job and claimed that he was making $1,400 a week selling dope in West Virginia, the court records state.
