Man Who Had Fake Gun And Was Shot By Police Has Been Charged
Devin Conlon Brunner, who was shot by police in Germantown on Nov. 11, has been charged with six counts of first-degree assault.

GERMANTOWN, MD — A Germantown man, who was shot by police after threatening them with a fake gun, has been charged with six counts of first-degree assault. Police have identified the man as 26-year-old Devin Conlon Brunner and said he was shot after pointing the gun at officers, according to a news release. Police later learned that the weapon was a pellet gun designed to look like an authentic firearm.
About 2:24 p.m. on Nov. 11, officers responded to Cross Laurel Court for reports of a man pointing a gun at numerous homes and residents. During the encounter, police demanded that Brunner put down the weapon. Officers shot Brunner when he allegedly pointed the gun at them.
Brunner was in critical condition after being shot by police, according to a Nov. 11 press release. Officials now say he is expected to survive.

None of the officers were injured during the encounter. Per standard protocol, the four officers who discharged their handguns have been placed on paid administrative leave, police said. The officers will work in a separate division while the department conducts an investigation.
Brunner was charged with four counts of first-degree assault against a police officer, and two counts of first-degree assault against a resident, officials said.
