2 Officers Shot In Frederick In Stable Condition: Reports

Two police officers and a suspect were shot Friday in Frederick. Reports said all three were flown to Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

FREDERICK, MD — Police have identified the two officers involved in a shooting in the area of Key Parkway and Waverley Drive in Frederick on Friday, according to reports.

Officers Bryan Snyder, 43, and Kristen Kowalski, 32, were shot while responding to a call about a suspicious person with a gun. Snyder is in his second year with the department, while Kowalski is in her ninth, the Frederick News-Post reported.

The Frederick Police Department confirmed the shooting on Twitter.

A suspect identified as 25-year-old Dominique Lamarr Lewis was also shot during the confrontation, the News-Post reported. All three were flown to Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, according to reports.

Dr. Thomas Scalea, physician-in-chief at Shock Trauma, told WBAL that both officers were shot in the torso.

"I'm happy to say both are awake, both are stable, they're being observed. The diagnostic procedures are continuing. I'm hopeful that everything is going to be OK," Scalea told WBAL.

Lewis' condition remains unknown.

Speaking at a news conference in Baltimore shortly after 5 p.m., Frederick Chief of Police Jason Lando said the Maryland Attorney General’s Office and the Maryland State Police are investigating the shooting.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan released a statement shortly before 5 p.m.

"I want to thank all of the officers who acted swiftly, including state troopers from the Frederick Barrack who assisted in the initial response, and the members of our aviation command who transported the injured officers. Our investigators remain on the scene," Hogan tweeted.

Several area schools were also locked down due to police activity; however, the lockdowns were lifted shortly after 2 p.m. ET.

There is no ongoing threat to the public, police said.
