Five Auto Thefts Among Incidents Reported Across Montgomery County in September 1 Crime Summary (mocoshow.com) — Montgomery County police report that a vehicle was stolen around 8 p.m. Monday from the 19200 block of Wheatfield Terrace in Germantown, part of a broader day of crime across the county. Other districts saw commercial burglaries, multiple auto thefts, a robbery, a residential burglary, a fired round entering a neighboring home, and a bus robbery.
   

2. MARC Train to Launch Direct Weekday Service Between Montgomery County and Baltimore (mocoshow.com) — Germantown commuters will soon get a direct weekday MARC connection linking the Brunswick and Camden lines, sharply cutting travel times to places like College Park and Baltimore. Starting September 28, one morning train to Baltimore and one evening return will run without transfers, created by adjusting existing service so no extra annual operating costs are needed.
   

3. Montgomery County police chief discusses school safety, new station and recruitment (wjla.com) — Montgomery County's police chief says school-zone traffic violations are especially high in Germantown, Silver Spring, and Wheaton, prompting stepped-up enforcement to protect students near buses and crosswalks. He also outlines plans to open a modernized Wheaton district station this fall and details new incentives aimed at recruiting a more diverse police force to serve communities like Germantown.
   

4. Mid-Atlantic FCU invests $50,000 to support Montgomery College student success (cuinsight.com) — From its Germantown base, Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union is investing $50,000 to help Montgomery College students stay in school, earn credentials, and prepare for local careers. The donation, part of the Pathways to Excellence Partnership Program, will support scholarships, workforce certifications, and other resources that remove financial barriers for more than 47,000 students countywide.
   

5. Man accused of wrong-way DUI crash on I-270 that killed a mother, daughter (washingtontimes.com) — A Germantown man is accused of driving drunk the wrong way on I-270 near Democracy Boulevard, causing a head-on crash that killed a Virginia mother and daughter and critically injured an 8-year-old girl. He faces multiple vehicular manslaughter and DUI-related charges and is being held without bond ahead of an October 6 court date.
