Oakwood Elementary forms
a chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS)
Oakwood Elementary is
forming a chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS). Oakwood will
join 3 other elementary schools in Anne Arundel county with NEHS chapters and
will be the first elementary school in Glen Burnie, MD to form a chapter. According
to the NEHS website, “NEHS was established in 2008 to recognize elementary
students in both public and non-public elementary schools for their academic
achievement and demonstrated personal responsibility, to provide meaningful
service to the school and community, and to develop essential leadership skills
in the students of elementary school”. Oakwood Elementary is excited to acknowledge
and promote the achievements of its students in this meaningful way.
Fourth Grade students that have maintained a
3.0 cumulative GPA from the second semester of 3rd grade and 1st
semester of 4th grade are eligible to apply for NEHS. Applications will go home with eligible
students on February 15 and are due back on February 27, 2013. Applications will be reviewed by a committee
of teachers. Students selected will be
inducted at a special ceremony on March 15th from 1:30pm to 2:25pm
at Oakwood Elementary. Once inducted, students will elect officers to lead the
honor society. Students will conduct
service projects that they choose and develop at Oakwood.
