Can Navy's Blue Angel Pilots Top 2014's Epic Selfie?

Naval pilot snapped epic selfie in 2014 as he zoomed above U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. Will we get another awesome pic next week?

Last year, the Twitter-verse was dazzled by a gravity-defying selfie posted by one of the pilots of the Navy’s Blue Angels.

Could another jaw-dropping image come out of next week’s rehearsals for Naval Academy graduation?

Lt. Commander Nate Barton snapped a self-portrait with his phone midair above the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis a year ago. And everyone shared it.

“#BlueAngels are ready to fire it up over @NavalAcademy #upsidedown!” he tweeted as he soared over the city during commissioning week events.

The Navy’s flight demonstration squad, the Blue Angels, world-renowned for aerial displays, performs annually at the Naval Academy as part of graduation week festivities.

Commissioning Week events begin Friday, May 15, and culminates with graduation day at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Friday, May 22, according to VisitAnnapolis.org.

The Blue Angels’ fly-overs can be seen:

  • Tuesday, May 19, over the Severn River from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for circle and arrival, and from 2 to 4 p.m. for a flight rehearsal.
  • Wednesday, May 20, over the Severn River from 2 to 4 p.m. for a flight demonstration.
  • Friday, May 22, above the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for the traditional graduation fly-over.
