UPDATE: Crews Battle Two-Alarm Brush Fire in Brooklyn Park

(UPDATE 9 a.m., Mar. 11)  One person was questioned but released, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to Anne Arundel County Division Chief Keith Swindle.

Swindle warned this may just be the beginning of brush fires this year.

"We've been fortunate in the last couple of weeks it hasn't been that bad," Swindle said. "But as we move into spring, we're going to have a tough time."

It took Anne Arundel and Baltimore City firefighters over an hour to battle a two-alarm brush fire in the Brooklyn Park area Sunday evening.

According to Anne Arundel County Fire Department Lt. Jack Beall, at 5:01 p.m. Sunday crews responded to two separate, but related brush fires. The first was at Matthews Court and 6th Street and the second was located at Benhill and Pennington avenues. 

Once crews arrived on the scene they called for more personnel, making the incident a two-alarm fire.

It took 46 firefighters an hour and 36 minutes to battle the blaze and no one was injured, according to Beall.

Beall said the Baltimore City Police Arson Unit has one person in custody and is working with Anne Arundel County Fire Investigators to determine the cause and nature of the fire.
