Career Alternative: Start Your Own Business

“Career Alternative:  Start  Your Own Business” is the title of a business conference sponsored by Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, October 2, from 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at La Fontaine Bleue, 7514 S. Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie.

Participants will learn about the advantages of business ownership; how to find a business that is right for you; the benefits of franchise systems; how to finance a business; and more.

Bob Hannon, president and CEO of Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation, will provide opening remarks on the importance of small business to Anne Arundel County. Other conference speakers include Richard Bock, president, FranNet of Maryland, who will discuss business ownership as a career alternative.

Representatives from the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) and SCORE will be among the exhibitors, providing information on their organizations and how they support small business owners.

The conference will also provide participants with one-on-one time with national franchise executives and a banking representative to discuss financing a business.

A number of  franchisors in “recession resistant” businesses will attend and are seeking individuals/groups interested in becoming owner/operators/investors in Maryland. Those business sectors include commercial imaging/printing; home health care/senior care providers; fitness/spa services; personal care; and food services.

“Career Alternative:  Start Your Own Business” was organized to reach those interested in small business ownership including those affected by layoffs and downsizing; service veterans; Baby Boomers and retirees looking for a second career or additional income; households needing a second income; recent college grads; and others interested in business ownership.
