Freedom Isn't Free

On Monday, November 12th, Glen Burnie-based restaurant Mission BBQ will celebrate Veteran’s Day by offering a complimentary sandwich to all those who have honorably served in our Nation’s military and armed forces.  Mission BBQ has brought on Charm City Cakes, the Baltimore bakery home to Food Network star Duff Goldman, to create an Iwo Jima cake.  The cake will replicate the iconic Joe Rosenthal photograph of U.S. Marines raising the U.S. flag on top of Mount Suribachi, immortalizing the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II.

There will be a live performance of the National Anthem at 12 PM by a United States veteran. A number of local veterans in uniform will be present to recognize their fellow service members. This presents a rare photo and interview opportunity for local media looking to cover area Veteran’s Day observances as well as a way for area residents to commemorate the holiday.
